5 College Essentials You’ll Ever Need

February 15, 2019Shanese

Everyone knows that a college/university student needs a lot of things to make their school lives a bit easier. However, I’m not here to list out everything you need under the sun. But what I will do is tell you the top 5 college essentials you’ll ever need, apart from the whole stationery aspect.

It doesn’t matter if you’re living on campus or living at home with your parents, the great part about this is, you can continue to use everything even after college. Just be sure to take very good care of them. And if something bad happens to it, just remember, it’s not your fault.

Laptop

Yes, I know you know that you need one (obviously) or you have one. Whatever but hear me out, there’s a reason it’s on this list.

You want a laptop that’s going to work for you and efficiently too. No one wants a slow, can barely use laptop. No! I forbid it! You need a laptop with great specs, one that won’t crash on you when you need it the most. You need one with a decent 13″-15″ screen so you can watch your Netflix and chill on your time.

I recommend a laptop with speed over 2.5GHz. Sure you’re not a gamer but I’m sure you may want to dabble into the art of graphic design. Or maybe even filmography or photography. Heck, whatever you’re passion, you’re going to need a great laptop.

So if you plan to ditch your dinosaur of a laptop and buy a new one, pay attention to the specs. The processor, the speed, the RAM, the operating system, the weight, they’re all important. Don’t buy a laptop because it looks pretty on the outside and you like the colour. Always pay attention to the specs.

If you already have a great laptop, then you don’t need to upgrade. Not unless something terrible happened to it. But if you plan to upgrade, don’t forget what I said about the specs.

Water Bottle

The best water bottle that I’ve ever come across is from the brand, Contigo. My mother has one and so I got one too. But the initial reason I bought one for myself was to take water for the gym. It’s a great bottle because it keeps my water ice cold.

My Contigo Water Bottle

I’m not 100% sure if you can put other liquids in it but to be on the safe side, I only use it for water. The version of the Contigo bottle I have is the AutoSeal Chill Stainless Steel Water Bottle 24 oz (picture of mine on the right). My mother’s version is the one with spout.

The rubber in hers came out and we’ve tried to put it back in the cover but opted to keep it around the rim. But the rubber didn’t affect how cool the water was on the inside of the bottle. I have seen reviews about the one my mom has, and some of them weren’t really good so I opted for version.

I highly recommend my version of the Contigo water bottle to everyone. Trust me, they’re really good. I accidentally left my bottle out of the fridge one night and the water was still cool in the morning. So if you’re going to get a water bottle, get this one. I can guarantee that you won’t regret it.

External Hard Drive

You can’t go wrong here. Sure you may have the cloud and all. But having an external hard drive, to me, is safer because you don’t have to worry about getting hacked. However, having a cloud account is a good thing too. It’s always good to have several backups for whatever work you do throughout your life. I use a 16GB Kingston thumb drive but I’ll be switching to something larger in the future. I’ve had it since high school and nothing bad has happened to it, thank God.

Earphones

Well, these are an essential in life. The best backup for regular earphones are Bluetooth earphones. I actually have both. It’s so much easier and freer to use Bluetooth earphones. Plus if you plan to go to the gym or go for a jog, BEST THING EVER! Trust me, it’s not a waste of money plus they last much longer than regular earphones.

Hand Sanitizer

Omg, germs? Gross! Who wants those? That’s why it’s always best to have a hand sanitizer nearby. You can have a bulk size version of your favourite sanitizer at home and just use it to fill up your smaller pocket size bottle. You can save yourself a lot of money and keep your hands clean throughout the day. It’s a win-win.

Planner

I never thought I needed one until my final year because life just started getting busier. If you’re going to be doing a lot of extra-curricular activities at school plus you have other deadlines to meet, get yourself a planner. Trust me, you’ll need it. Plus having a planner is such a great way to be more organized. It almost makes it seem like you have your whole life in order. Of course, you have to get a new one every year but it’s worth it.

Clipboard & Sticky Notes

Who doesn’t want a clipboard? It looks cool right? I mean yeah it does but it helps to keep you organized. So every note you’ve jotted down on a piece of paper can be kept safe on your clipboard. And if you didn’t see my post on how to survive college, you’re definitely going to need to be organized – especially when all your assignments pile up.

And with sticky notes, or posts it (as some people call it), you can stick it anymore. So if you have to remind yourself about something, write it on a sticky note and place it somewhere you know you’ll see it.

Hey, thank you so much for reading! Quick question, do you shop online? If that’s a yes, don’t you wish you had discount codes or don’t you wish you could know when prices drop on an item in your cart? If that’s another yes, what you need is Honey.

Honey is an extension that you add to your browser like Google Chrome and it finds discount codes on any site you visit. I’ve used Honey on sites like Amazon, H&M, Udemy and many more. So if you’re looking to save money when you’re shopping online, try Honey today and save!
